hi steve

I am new member.
Just  tried  sending post but it did not work so I will try again.

I have  a 13 year old son, musically minder after his mum who bought a squire bullet amp with small 10w amp when he was 12. He got into my 40  years of listening to the great Rory Gallagher.

I do not  how to help  him, being an older Dad.

It is interesting that friends recommend him a korg toneworks 1500ax that I  am unsure what does and a Amp called Champeaux but  unsure of spelling.

It  would be great if you could advise this up  and coming musician and then I perhaps could invest in some more advanced amp, tools, etc.

Its interesting, me being  from the 60s that when RorgG played the MARQUEE in London, a young Bryan May had the opportunity to go back stage with his friend and ask Rory how he got his great sound. I feel like  that  young  man, today when I listen to this great guitarist. To think Queen and U2 guitarists were inspired by Rory and in future, many more alike.

please post me and thanks for your website

anthony and family now living in southern lappland, sweden

ps email innerda@yahoo.co.uk if i get lost

Hi there,
For a budget Rory sound you would get good results from a Fender Blues Junior or a Vox Ac15 CC1. Both are well under £500 new so second hand prices are good value for money. The 'real' sound should be a Vox AC30, a strat and a treble booster. A proper valve amp would be best and preferably a Vox AC30/15 type with EL84 output valves.
Good luck,
Stevie Flynn.

 :Dhi steve
its great to be in touch with the isles living here in lapland.
i go back more than i can remember to my first roryg gig in 1976 birmingham but
later worked on radio school and talking about EL84 valves brings back some dust.
in my earlier radioofficer days valve were the thing but technology took over as you know and then
the satelite killed the radiostar unless you were like yourself, perhaps a good technícian. However today
i just have my mobile that sends a sms in morse when i get a  call...saying connecting people.
i love that phrase as i have travelled so many years and love people of all lands.
i was a big fan of gerry rafferty and once when in oban, saw his name appearing in venue there.
i unfortunately did not go in and see him, as he was like roryg,,,another genius celt of music and later never sold himself to the

pop-chart market. i miss roryg as he was possibly the one great white musician of unlikely another in my time.

the news on the amps got us excited as we saw you advertising on ebay ...flyn amps, a treble booster for a voxac30.
i only know about this due to an intervies that bryan may gave when he first got to meet roryg when he was unkown, back stage in perhaps london the marquee club but it may have been in 1974 when roryg was doing his irish tour. bryan may then was with a young friend  he went to ask roryg how he got his sound, that he really liked.

can you look out for me for fender blues junior or vox ac15cc1 and i will invest later for a proper valve amp. Can I  use the ac30 vox treble booster withthe the junior and  fender or  do I  have to a proper ac30 vlave amp.

i am trying to type this unseen as the screen does not scroll down when i type so please excuse the errors.

keen dad with up and coming teenager musician
anthony and rory

Hi,
The OC44 will work well with most EL84 equiped amps (AC30/15, Blues Junior, Orange Tiny terror etc) but it sounds best with the Normal channel of an early Vox Ac30. The Blues Junior is a good choice I think.
All the best,
Stevie Flynn.
